Presently, a vegan diet is very popular for various reasons - it is ethical, reduces carbon footprint and can lower risk of chronic diseases. However, a vegan diet can be initially difficult to follow and needs careful planning to provide all the nutrients needed for good health.

A vegan diet lacks vitamin B12 which is present ONLY in animal foods and it is low in essential vitamins and minerals - iron, calcium, zinc and vitamin D. One has to select the right foods which provide these nutrients. I would advise to gradually progress to a vegan diet and If you are not sure about adequacy of your diet, consult a dietitian.
